During President Trump’s first term in office, he made good progress on building the Keystone XL pipeline.

Biden ruined it.

This energy artery would have brought 830,000 barrels of oil per day from Canada’s Alberta region down to the American Midwest. It would have eliminated the need for costly and dangerous rail transport, lowered energy costs, and created high-paying jobs.

But Keystone XL was held up by environmental concerns and regulatory red tape for more than a decade. Joe Biden finally killed it in 2021 by revoking a key permit. Evidently it clashed with Biden’s green new scam agenda.

After President Trump’s 2025 inauguration, he quickly attempted to restart the process, but it was too late. The company who was behind Keystone XL, TC Energy, had already spent $15 billion and a spokeswoman stated, “We’ve moved on.”

Mining Was Crippled, Too

In the U.S., it typically takes longer to get the necessary permits for a mining project than it does to actually build the mine.

For example, the Pebble Mine in Alaska, which could have been one of the largest gold and copper mines in North America, has been held up by red tape for more than 20 years.

The Resolution Copper Mine in Arizona has been attempting to get approval since the early 2000s. This project, owned by mining giants BHP and Rio Tinto, could be a tremendously productive mine. It could create high-paying jobs, real output, and the ripple effects would spread throughout the country.

America’s permitting and approval process has been slow and painful. Even after permitting is complete, lawsuits often pop up and slow the process. A single ruling by a judge or bureaucrat can trash decades of hard work and billions of dollars of investment.

This must change, and it will…

Trump’s Mission: Kill Red Tape

President Trump is determined to end the ridiculous state of mining, drilling, and energy projects in America.

On January 20th, 2025, he declared a national energy emergency, invoking the Defense Production Act to prioritize production of minerals and fossil fuels. This will bypass certain roadblocks, fast-track approvals, and limit bureaucratic bottlenecks.

Trump has directed his Department of Interior to reduce review times of key projects from multiple years to as little as 28 days. This should dramatically improve the outlook for American production of energy and key minerals.

President Trump is absolutely determined to fix American mineral and energy production.

Improving Outlook for America (and Investors)

Suddenly the outlook for American miners and drillers is much-improved. The American permitting and approval process – once a nightmare – is about to get far better.

My esteemed colleague Jim Rickards has been all over this trend. Jim believes we are on the cusp of unlocking $150 trillion worth of mineral wealth.

America is truly blessed when it comes to mineral and energy wealth. We simply haven’t been able to access it due to bureaucrats, corrupt lobbyists, and misguided environmentalists.

No other country on Earth has such a super-system of waterways. Once we begin tapping into this vast mineral wealth, there’s no other place on Earth that can match our ability to transport it.
