When the Bones Sing by Ginny Myers Sain (Audiobook)
The first thing that attracted me to this book was the title itself and the beautiful cover. This supernatural thriller is set in a small town in the Ozarks and is about a teenage girl who can hear the bones of the dead. That alone had me hooked and the novel didn’t disappoint.
In the past few years there have been many people who have disappeared on the hiking trails in Lucifer’s Creek and later discovered buried elsewhere. Some of the townsfolk have dubbed it the Ozark’s howler although no one has been witness to this creature.
Dovie, seventeen, has a talent for hearing the bones of the dead sing. She isn’t one to believe in magic even though there have been many before her with this same gift. She acknowledges though that she can and does find the dead and when someone goes missing the local sheriff calls on her for help and she always helps. She wants to be sure the dead are back with their loved ones and at peace. As this story unfolded with more found dead there was a twist I didn’t see coming and it was a shocking one. Sometimes it seems the truth is closer to home than anyone would have thought.
The audiobook was amazing! It is read by Amanda Stribling and her voice was absolutely perfect for this haunting gothic tale. I really enjoyed this novel and look forward to reading the author’s other books. Highly recommended for those who like supernatural thrillers.
