"Freedom Cities", "Opportunity Zones", Trump & The Coming Technocracy

Back in 2023, President Trump proposed building “freedom cities” on undeveloped federal land.  This concept is promoted by the Freedom Cities Coalition, a project of the asset management firm NeWay Capital.  NeWay works with governments for social impact investing, social change, and investments that address poverty.  Others in support of these cities are corporations and investment companies that would essentially create corporate-run cities that don’t operate under federal law.

The idea behind these cities is that they would write their own laws, have their own corporate-created governance structures that are pro-innovation, be testing grounds for innovations in medicine, clean energy, and other technologies without falling under any government regulation or oversight, instead of being under corporate control.  Other claims include solving the housing crisis, returning manufacturing back to the U.S., creating jobs, and unleashing entrepreneurs who could create “Prosperity Zones“.  This video explains the business model of these cities created in Special Administrative Regions (SAR), or so-called Prosperity Zones, that operate outside of the Constitution.

Comprised of tech executives, the Coalition has been lobbying the Trump administration and Congress for legislation that would sanction these Freedom Cities.  Indeed, according to the Coalition, 28% of U.S. land is “federally owned“, almost one-third of U.S. land, with most being in the West.  Fits right in with Trump’s proposal.  However, there might be a few living in the West who would argue ownership of that land.  Regardless, the lobbying represents its “Federal Enclave Approach” by establishing “special jurisdictional zones” much like what is described in the previous video.

The Coalition also proposes an Interstate Compact Approach, where “States enter into a durable agreement, with Congressional consent, to create special regulatory and tax zones” as authorized under the Constitution, Article 1 Section 10.  Or, it promotes an Executive Order with “designation of specific geographic areas as Freedom Cities Zones” for “Immediate implementation capability”.  The takeaway here is these avaricious tycoons want the government to sanction their land as off limits from federal laws and be allowed to create their own form of governance.

NeWay already instituted a freedom city in Honduras, called Prospera after the Honduran government created a “special economic zone (SEZ)”, called a ZEDE, that suited NeWay’s purpose.  However, Prospera isn’t turning out quite like it was envisioned.  After the ZEDE law was removed NeWay sued Honduras, which may potentially lead to the downfall of Honduras itself.

SEZs are part of a larger plan by Balaji Srinivasan who created the Network State, a movement comprised of wealthy technocrats who want to advance the use of SEZs to build their own societies.  Greenland, which Trump wants to buy, is a target for a Freedom City as well.

Network State is more alarming than it sounds, they don’t believe in God, and openly admit the “corporate takeover of America we’re supposed to be constantly vigilant for actually already occured (sic) 50 years ago”.

The NeWay Foundation is working on creating Prosperity States as a form of Interstate Compact.  Compact for America is also attached to Prosperity States.  As described in this article, with an Interstate Compact, land along the borders of two states could be used to create the cities, with shared taxation and policies.

Another group supporting Freedom Cities is the Frontier Foundation, and it also endorses using federal land through the creation and use of SEZs.  It also supports private land owners and municipalities to become a Freedom City (pg 5), and a renewal of Opportunity Zone legislation (pg 6).  Heck, might as well add an AI economic zone while they are at it.

It just so happens that President Trump is resurrecting the Opportunity Zone initiative from his previous term, a concept supported by the World Economic Forum.  Opportunity Zones were intended to bring investors to low-income or blighted areas, rebuild them to include housing and retail services, thus increasing the opportunity for jobs and a better life.  It also gave investors nice tax breaks and other incentives to rebuild these areas.  As it turns out, those Opportunity Zones didn’t live up to the hype, not always working for impoverished communities, in contrast to the report by the Trump administration.  However, the tycoons would love nothing more than to take advantage of this type of legislation to create their own little empire.

The Charter Cities Institute, in which NeWay Capital invests, is tied to Network State and affiliated with the Frontier Foundation.  A research paper written by the Institute describes how this would work, listing proposed cities where they could be built on page 18, and opening the door to municipalities and private landowners.  By its own admission, it supports cities having its own governance system.

As explained in this article, all of these groups have interesting connections that include the President.

These cities are a worked over version of company towns from years ago, and a pure reflection of technocracy, cities run by corporate technocrats who admonish any semblance of government institutions.   Fortunately, the whole idea of Freedom Cities is drawing criticism.

But in reality, the legislative process is being abused by a bunch of wanna be oligarchs. Legislation is only wanted to give cover to what they are already doing, provide the facade that it will be done Constitutionally, and to advance their objectives.  These corporate-run cities are already in the works and are leading to more corporate nation states as government abdicates its responsibilities in following the Constitution.

Elon Musk is working towards a corporate-run city, instead calling it a “company town”, in Starbase, Texas.  Sorry Elon, you are late to the game, but maybe some of his ideas came from his grandfather.  Telosa is the utopian city Mark Lore wants to build in the desert along with others who have the same idea.  Larry Ellison has his own ideas on what should be done to the island he owns in Hawaii.  Then there are all the nameless tech-associated groups with the same projects in mind such as California Forever in Solano County, which was reported as a Network State project, then denied.  Citizens fighting California Forever won the first round.

Freedom Cities, Opportunity Zones, and wealthy technocrats are a threat to America. Technocrats want to dismantle the Constitution for their own benefit based on a perceived new idea that is just a rehash of something that was already tried and failed.  When these oligarchs come knocking at your town door, let your elected officials know you want no part of selling out to them.  And let your representatives in Congress know that you oppose any legislation in support of Freedom Cities or Opportunity Zones, and land managed by the federal government is not open to development as a Freedom City.  As shown in California, the first round can be won.
