Why do we bash some places more than others?
The Price of Liberty is an independent voice for lovers of liberty. Established by Susan Calloway (Mama Liberty or Lady Susan), this work is carried on by the Barton family of the Pahasapa, the Black Hills. We lost Mama Liberty in an untimely way to cancer, and attempt to carry on her work. But the show love for everyone, even those we find are evil, enemies, and just plain stupid. We love them but not their actions. Although we know it is a low-probability outcome, we seek to educate them as much as we do novice and experienced lovers of liberty. We do not reject “electoral” libertarianism, but gave up on it long ago. Part of our chosen work of education – dare we say enlightenment – has always be to call a spade a spade.
More than once various people, including some in California, ask us this question: why do we hit on some places a lot more than others? It isn’t just California. We do the same for Colorado, New Mexico, and other “liberal” (or as we prefer, Transnational Regressives, or Tranzis) States. But we even bash States like Texas and Florida and Wyoming now and then: all supposedly “red” conservative States.
There are several answers. Let us look first at California: the “People’s Republic” or Left Coast or the “Bare Everything” State. California is known for its “out-of-pocket” behavior (see the short list of California slang to see what we mean.) But specifics are possible:
First, San Francisco is indeed (and pretty much always has been) Babylon-by-the-Bay. A focus and source of all kinds of evil. Indeed, except for the District of Criminals, the only cities that can compare to it in depravity and all kinds of evil are the East’s Chicago and the South’s New Orleans. And San Francisco, if not the “brain” of Cali, is certainly a strong contender for being its soul. Its history bears it out. (Pun intended.)
Second, we know San Francisco too well. Over a relatively long life, your writer/editor (Nathan) has lived in a whole lot of places: Northern and Eastern and Southwestern Colorado, West Texas, Eastern New Mexico, Eastern and Western Kansas, the Black Hills of South Dakota, far Northern Montana, Virginia, Utah, the Nordrhein in Germany. Briefly in Panama and Honduras. And twice at the Presidio of San Francisco, then shoulder to shoulder with the City and County of San Francisco. Then, as an Army post, the Presidio was an island of sanity in a sea of madness. Even 40 years ago, San Francisco was a nice place to visit and see (unlike much of it today) but no place to raise a family or lead a decent life. Yes, there are nice, even religious, people in San Fransisco and its vicinity. They indeed have the patience of Job: the nutcases (from pinyon nut size to coconut size) overwhelm them.
Third, San Francisco is a major negative influence on both California and all of the States. This has been the case for several centuries, almost from its founding. Because many people see what a cesspool the city is, it very quickly developed a strong victim attitude. And it is frequently (if not always) its own worst enemy: its psychotic and sociopathic denizens have free rein in the city. And are frequently elected to and appointed to high office.
Other parts of the State share in San Francisco’s poor example and reputation. Chief among these are Hollywood, that awful neighborhood of Los Angeles. As is Berkeley = which glorifies in the nickname of Bizerkley for its insane behavior and beliefs. But there are scores of other cities and towns that contribute to why we bash Cali. Small and large, from Mill Valley and Novato to Yreka and Barstow. These places often revel in their debauchery.
California is (was) a lovely place: climates, terrain, natural resources, and potential for good. But time and time again, the State (and the brief Republic, and the old Spanish colony before Mexico and that) has squandered all those advantages. They have perverted their society and their people – and polluted their land time and time again. And like New England and Minnesota before them, the State has imperial ambitions – and actually has an imperium. Most of Nevada, Arizona, Oregon and even Baja California del Norte are in essence economic and even political colonies. Utah so far has avoided it, but only because it is the heart of a different sort of imperial ambitions.
Well, we’ll leave it for now and for California. Next, let us discuss New Mexico and Colorado and why we so vigorously point them out as worthy of condemnation.
Not because we want to condemn them, but because we want them to succeed. And for California and these other States, we see their current path leads them to destruction. And true condemnation for most of their people.
