Letter to the Editor - Plymouth-Canton Observer
Mr. James Huddleston,
I am responding to a letter (reference Jan 27 th Plymouth-Canton Letters to the Editor) that you wrote attempting to defame Senator Patrick Colbeck. You attempt to infer that the increased state revenue of 1.2 billion was gained at the expense of the poor and the middle-class. Nothing could be more untrue. The increased revenue was due to more jobs which allowed Michigan to enjoy private sector job growth which placed our state to rank as the 4th highest in the nation for private sector growth. During that time span, Michigan added over 124,000 jobs. The simple truth is that more jobs mean more taxable income and more local spending. This all has a positive and geometric effect on our state economy. It is my sincere belief that Senator Colbeck and Governor Snyder have pursued policies and legislation that have enabled the significant growth and financial security of our great state. I am a very strong believer in the Constitution and I would fight to defend your First Amendment right to free speech. I only ask that you respect all of us by not making baseless defaming charges. Let me go one step further. Mr. Huddleston -Would you support the majority of the following tenets? I believe most Americans would agree with the majority of the following items. For the record, I believe in all ten.
1. Eliminate Excessive Taxes -
2. Eliminate the National Debt -
3. Eliminate Deficit Spending -
4. Protect Free Markets -
5. Abide by the Constitution of the United States -
6. Promote Civic Responsibility -
7. Reduce the Overall Size of Government -
8. Believe in the People -
9. Avoid the Pitfalls of Politics -
10. Maintain Local Independence -
Which of the above precepts do you disagree with? If you agree with most of them you are in fact a believer in the Tea Party, that movement that you so emotionally would infer is a bad thing. You see Mr. Huddleston; the above 10 points are the platform of the Tea Party Movement.
