Thanksgiving 2024: Part 2 of 2-- Cat Dared Thor & Then...

The second part of my holiday report was the most surprising and cool thing that happened, and it was at the very beginning.

On Monday, Cat and I were doing our daily “check-in chat” and we were talking about various and sundry like we always do. And I mentioned I was looking forward to talking to Sleep about his latest contacts with the Norse gods. Of course, I said, I had nothing new to report myself. I haven’t heard from a god (reading that back to myself sounds hilarious!) since the whole Thor’s booming voice telling me I was a warrior stuff. I shrugged. I haven’t been putting in the slightest effort back, so it’s no surprise I’ve had no further contact.

Cat pouted a little, “I wish the gods would talk to me!”

“Me too!” I quipped.

She got thoughtful, “But it would have to be an ‘in your face’ sign that was unmistakable because I’m such a natural skeptic.”

I joked, “Well, I hear the Norse gods are recruiting. They seem to be everywhere lately. Why don’t you ask them for a sign they’re real?”

My friend considered, “Well, the only thing that would convince me is if Thor gave me his hammer, so it’ll never happen!”

We both laughed… but I said, “Be careful what you wish for!”

Cut to two days later when she and Sleep went across the street to the state park to walk around a little. It was almost deserted, only a couple of retired people in RVs were camping there. No kids, no people walking around. It was nice out, but chilly– and right before Thanksgiving, everyone was busy with other plans, so Cat and Sleep were alone.

They were talking over their differences and managing to be pretty relaxed about it somehow. At some point they came to the pebbly beach that appears when the tide is out. Sleep wandered in one direction, and Cat another. She rounded a bend and saw, plopped atop the rocks at a jaunty angle– THOR’S HAMMER!

I kid you not! She took a pic! (Which I’ll have to share when she sends me a copy.)

The hammer was head down, handle up, and at a slight angle like when you see it depicted in fiction.

She called out to Sleep and told him to come look, and he did. She thought it was a joke, like maybe someone tied a replica Thor’s hammer up to trick people? So she waited for Sleep to join her and then joked, “I wonder if I’m worthy?” and picked up what ended up being a very light plastic kids toy Thor Hammer! Sleep started laughing uproariously. They realized the tide must have brought in the plastic toy and plunked it directly in Cat’s path at the last tide!

Then Sleep, who was with me when I chucked a wooden egg out at high tide for Njord at the very same park, realized that the hammer was exactly where my egg plunked into the water! The exact same spot along the entire shoreline! He told Cat about the weirdness of that coincidence on top of the find itself.

When they got back, Cat was proudly carrying her gift from Thor. She was into comic books (Marvel, not DC– the distinction is important to comic book nerds!) and so getting the Marvel version of Thor’s hammer also fit quite nicely!

I laughed in delight, of course, and told Sleep and everyone else about the conversation Cat and I had just two days before. Cat was all pouting that the gods wouldn’t give her a sign, LIKE THOR’S HAMMER!! Cat just blushed and said, “I’m listening now…” and smiled.

That– was weird, and yet, also rather perfect!

On Friday, I did tarot readings on everyone– but specifically on what the hell was going on with the Norse gods and the Tribe? The readings were full of darkness but also hope. Essentially, we’re going to go through a really dark period of suffering (like that’s a surprise, eh?) but the Norse gods are trying to help us make it. Something will shift at the end and we’ll be comfortable and okay– but we have to go through some shit first. Totally what my own dreams have been telling me for years!

Interestingly, the readings for both myself and Cat were about Fate. She and I have a predestined path to follow. Me– I knew about, but Cat too? But then she lives with me so maybe not that much of a surprise.

Sleep has more choices, and a harder road to walk, but he’ll make it to the end as well. Reese– same thing, but it looks like that land offer came just barely in the nick of time for her. She has a lot of work to do before it’s “ready” and there will be a ton of bullshit and glitches, but she’ll make it through.

Good news ultimately, but life is going to get WAY SHITTY for a while, and that’s no surprise to any of us.

In more detail, Cat will be using her artistic and computer skills on Thor’s behalf (or rather, the behalf of his people). Sleep needs to learn how to be a spiritual warrior. Reese needs to make her place for her Troop of Irish fae, so they can bring her more energy.

I asked about what I was supposed to do for Njord and Thor. I got providing aid and comfort to Thor’s people, not direct fighting– which makes so much more sense. Njord, on the other hand, wanted me to employ spycraft. He IS the god of commerce, travel, and such-like. But it does feel coordinated between the gods. But what the hell do I know? This pagan gods stuff is still very new to me! Now everyone is getting signs from them! I’m not sure what they can do for me, but I will try to stay open to new communications and opportunities. I also have to buy a Thor statue now. Wooden, like my Njord one.

Since the hammer was given to her, Cat has started studying the runes again, even making a phonetic Norse alphabet using runes, including a basic number system! So she’s on her game better than me for sure.

But I’m super happy for her, honestly.
