Pete Crow-Armstrong bet on himself in April when he reportedly rejected a contract extension offer from the Chicago Cubs worth $75 million. Since turning down the offer, Crow-Armsrtong has been one of the Cubs’ best bats in the hottest offense in the MLB.

On Saturday night, Crow-Armstrong put together another quality outing in Chicago’s 6-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in front of 37,335 fans at American Family Field. Armstrong went 1-of-4 at-bat, hitting a three-run homer in the fourth inning to give Chicago a 4-1 lead.

With the win, the Cubs now have a three-game lead over the Cincinnati Reds for first place in the NL Central. The Brewers are five games behind Chicago in third place.

And Crow-Armstrong has more leverage at the negotiating table with the Cubs’ front office. Crow-Armstrong sent the front office a message when he flashed the money sign as he rounded the bases after hitting the home run.

Proving his worth

Crow-Armstrong is proving his worth to the Cubs in his third season in the majors. He’s tied with Kyle Tucker and Seiya Suzuki for hitting the most home runs on the team this season with nine.

Crow-Armstrong is batting .271/.307/.564 with 26 RBI, 36 hits, and has scored 26 runs to begin the season. Like Tucker, he’s playing his way to a major payday. Whether the Cubs can afford to keep both remains to be seen.

Chicago has a chance to sweep the Brewers when they play their series finale on Sunday at 1:10 p.m. CST.
