Ravens Lead the NFL in “Moody” Fans
Expectations can be dangerous, particularly if they are set too high. But if you’re a Ravens fan, it’s hard not to expect the best from a generational quarterback and a blue-chip organization. A championship is the benchmark and anything short of the franchise’s third Lombardi Trophy is considered a failure.
In 2019, Lamar Jackson was the NFL’s second-ever unanimous MVP. The Ravens were on a roll. They entered the postseason with 12 consecutive wins by an average margin of 18 points. A Super Bowl win appeared comfortably within their grasp. Instead, like so many of their turnovers during the playoffs, the opportunity slipped through their fingers.
Fast forward to 2023, another league MVP season for the Ravens. The Ravens were the AFC’s top dog, the No. 1 seed. Expectations soared. Beat the Texans in the Divisional Round and the Ravens would host the AFC Championship. And they did! Their guests in the Conference Championship were the Kansas City Chiefs and their accompanying Swifties. Once again, opportunity evaded them thanks to more postseason turnovers. Hopes, dashed. Expectations, crumbled. Frustration, skyrocketed.
In 2024 the Ravens dusted off. Lamar had another MVP caliber season (he should have won it) and the Ravens had an opportunity to redeem themselves. They didn’t. Turnovers again, deflated expectations faster than a Tom Brady football. Fans were in meltdown mode. Frustrated, incorporated! They couldn’t contain themselves and expressed their angst adamantly on social media.
When the 2024 season had come to a close, Action Network set out to find out which NFL fanbases were the moodiest on social media.
To uncover the chippiest of fans, the Action Network team analyzed 10.1 million negative posts on X and Reddit following all 285 games.
- Online posts were collected from both game day and the following day, regardless of the result.
- The team then grouped posts by game outcome, calculating the average number of negative posts after wins and losses for each team.
Here’s what they uncovered (You can view the raw data and methodology in this Google Sheet):
- Baltimore Ravens fans were the moodiest overall– They ranked #1 for both negative posts after losses (average of 71,060 per loss) and wins (average of 38,777 per win), showing consistent emotional intensity throughout the season.
- Kansas City Chiefs fans had the second highest average anger per loss– Despite only three losses, they averaged 44,340 moody posts per defeat, with the Super Bowl loss triggering 109,540 angry posts.
- Buffalo Bills fans were consistently vocal– Ranking third for negative posts after losses (178,040) and fifth after wins (359,760), Bills fans showed high engagement regardless of the outcome.
- Moody posts weren’t just about losing– Many fanbases, especially Ravens, Eagles, and 49ers, showed significant frustration even after wins, highlighting how expectations, performance quality, or specific players drove criticism beyond the final score.

Although we have posted any polls or done any surveys, the vibe surrounding the Ravens has tempered. Fans seem a bit more cautious, lowering expectations given those three seasons that ended in bitter disappointment.
So, how moody are you about the Ravens these days?
