Potential Chicago Bears trade option emerges amid Tyler Warren buzz

Leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears have been heavily connected to tight end Tyler Warren. While they already have Cole Kmet on their roster, adding Warren would give the Bears a two-headed monster opposing defenses must fear.

New head coach Ben Johnson was known to run plenty of 12 personnel with the Detroit Lions. However, while Sam LaPorta was strong, he didn’t necessarily have as talented of a tandem as Kmet and Warren would be. While Johnson would have figure out exactly how the pairing would work, Warren’s addition would undoubtedly give Chicago a much stronger offense.

Still, there’s always a chance Warren isn’t available at No. 10. Or, a player like Ashton Jeanty or another Bears target is, putting their Warren plans on the backburner. But if Chicago seriously wanted to upgrade their tight end room, another option has emerged. Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert has re-appeared on the trade block. Furthermore, the Eagles would be willing to accept picks not in 2025 to facilitate a deal, via Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports.

Cost of doing business 

The Philadelphia Eagles may have won the Super Bowl, but they now find themselves in a bit of cap purgatory. They’ve seen numerous top players such as Josh Sweat, Milton Williams and CJ Gardner-Johnson leave in free agency. And now when it comes to Goedert, he may be just out of their pay grade.

The tight end isn’t making an exorbitant amount of money in 2025, with a $1.25 base salary and an overall cap hit of just over $11.7 million. He is set to be a free agent following the season, meaning the Bears would have another decision to make should they acquire him. However, his contract status will also drive his price down.

Goedert’s trade status already takes Philadelphia’s upper hand away. Furthermore, if they’re so desperate to move him, it won’t take major draft capital to swing a deal. And if the Eagles will accept draft picks in 2026 and beyond, acquiring Goedert won’t even affect the Bears’ 2025 standing.

It’s not as easy as simply adding Goedert to the roster, general manager Ryan Poles and company would need to figure out it works money and team wise. But if they feel tight end is a needed area of improvement, Goedert is available for the taking.

What Dallas Goedert offers Chicago Bears

Goedert originally joined the Eagles as a second-round pick in 2018. He has gone on to appear in 93 games for the team, starting 76 of them. The tight end has caught 349 passes for 4,085 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Goedert’s numbers were down in 2024, failing to reach the 500 yard mark for the first time since 2019. Furthermore, his two touchdown grabs were the lowest of his career. However, taking away his rookie and most recent season, Goedert has hit at least 65 receptions, 524 yards and three touchdowns in every season of his seven-year NFL campaign.

Kmet has been with the Bears since 2020, appearing in 84 games and starting 76. He has caught 258 passes for 2,592 yards and 19 touchdowns. He has shown flashes of brilliance with seven touchdown grabs in 2022 and 719 yards in 2023. However, his 2024 season saw him catch just 47 passes for 474 yards and four touchdowns.

That doesn’t mean the tight end will be written out of the gameplan. Kmet will still be a trusted safety blanket for Caleb Williams and a strong blocker on the outside of the offensive line. But adding another tight end to the mix allows Chicago to mix-and-match their offense. On every play, they’d have a potential game-changing tight end on the field.

The Bears must ultimately decide if the juice is worth the squeeze with Goedert, even if a trade costs late draft picks. But Johnson is assuredly assessing all positions on Chicago’s offense. The tight end room could still be tinkered with heading into training camp.
