OTL: How Things Look with the Draft Dust Settled…

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Last week was all about the spectacle. This week is about letting the dust settle and taking stock of how the landscape of the league has changed.

The RSR team got the chance to do our Knee-Jerk Reactions to the picks as they came in, but with all the selections now done, the consensus among prognosticators is that, once again, EDC and Company did a solid job.

On a personal note, I was a big fan of the first two days, and less a fan of the third. I recognize logically that once teams get to that point in the Draft, it’s mostly guesswork and banking on upside, and the Ravens did quite a bit of that with the athletic profiles of their late picks, so I’m trying to suspend judgment based on that philosophy.

I dove deep into this class, and it was tough to miss out on some guys that I’d really liked with the combination of college production and athletic upside. In particular, trading back and missing out on CB Dorian Strong to opt for another CB in Bilhal Kone at the next pick was a bummer, especially seeing Strong go to the Bills. My opinion only counts for me, though; what matters is that the guys they brought into the building can produce. They landed 11 prospects and got some really good value…

…which is more than can be said for the Bengals, who are being widely regarded as having among the worst Draft groups in the league. You won’t hear me complaining, especially after the upside that we saw from both Pittsburgh and Cleveland with their classes. All three AFC North opponents invested early in D-line, which is a sign of the times in the division facing off against Baltimore’s rushing attack twice a year. Meanwhile, as the Ravens face off against those same opponents, I’ll be interested to see what their teams look like coming out of camp…

…but the numbers tell us we probably won’t be seeing Shedeur Sanders in the immediate future.

Next stop: offseason workout activities.
