Knee-Jerk Reactions: Ravens Draft Marshall EDGE Mike Green

With the 59th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens selected EDGE Mike Green from Marshall.

A ballsy move from EDC but I love it! The man sitting across from him in the war room (Steve Bisciotti), undoubtedly signed off on this. It’s a surprising move nonetheless. As far as talent goes, Mike Green was the best player by far on the board. But with the Justin Tucker allegations looming, I did not expect to see this card turned in.

I’ll add one more thought. The Ravens historically have taken some swings on players with high ceilings but unstable floors in Round 2. But with the right leadership on and off the field, this pick could one day be remembered as one of the best 2nd-round picks in team history.

There will be some who might not be keen with the pick, hoping instead for reinforcements across the offensive line. But make no mistake about it, the Ravens have become a much better team within the last 24 hours.

Tanner George

The NFL can’t keep letting the Ravens get away with this. Baltimore has added top-3 players in the class at positions of need with their first two selections. Green was an absolute monster at Marshall; his tape is simply ridiculous. I understand that some teams had concerns with his character, but I never envisioned him falling this far. Baltimore adds an absolute steal in the 2nd round.

Nick Polinsky

Though this pick fits the Ravens typical style, I’m a little surprised they chose him even with the allegations he’s faced. The Ravens have had a tendency to avoid players with any potential personal blips on the radar.

Otherwise Mike Green is another case of a very talented player falling into the Ravens’ lap. Green is an explosive edge who put up a whopping 17.0 sacks in 2024 at Marshall. The Ravens need edge help with Odafe Oweh seemingly on the way out and Kyle Van Noy continuing to get up in age.

It seems like the Ravens often target the edge rushers with freakish athletic tools, but Green is also a guy who can flat out get to the quarterback.

Rob Shields

Mike Green the player is a steal at this point. Excellent pass rushing skills. He may have been at a “small school” but he dominated those schools and that’s what you need to see. He has all the skills needed to be a double-digit sack guy.

Now, Mike Green off the field has other problems. With multiple sexual abuse allegations against him, you wonder what the Ravens may know about his case. The Justin Tucker stuff is hanging over things right now and now you add this. An organization that once would remove guys like this off their board has now said: this is worth the risk.

I like it but what comes off this will be very interesting.

Kevin McNelis

Let’s start with the positive: the Ravens got a first-round talent at the end of the second, hitting a big position of need in doing so. Green’s FBS-leading 17 sacks last year is just the kind of pass rush juice that the D-line so desperately needs, and he’s going to wreak havoc up front.

I’m going to tread lightly with some of the other conversation around him, but suffice to say there’s a reason other teams passed on Green. For a team currently navigating an investigation into player misconduct, the optics of taking a player who was summarily dismissed from a team based on similarly-concerning allegations aren’t great. All draft picks are gambles, but this is a gamble of a different sort, and I’m hoping the front office has done their due diligence here.

John Hughey

The Ravens have addressed two positions of need early, with potential Day-1 starters, selecting Marshall edge rusher Mike Green with the 59th pick. If you can look over the allegations (which Green has denied), it’s a home run selection for DeCosta. Green not only brings experience, but production as well, coming off a 17-sack season in 2024. Kyle Van Noy is coming off his first double-digit sack season, but the veteran linebacker is entering year 13.

Grabbing another efficient and young pass rusher to pair with Oweh and Robinson seems like a no-brainer, for a Ravens defense that ranked 2nd in sacks last year.

Nikhil Mehta

Green’s sexual assault allegations should be taken seriously and reportedly knocked him off multiple teams’ boards. This is a much bigger issue that can’t be properly discussed in a draft grade, but it merits mentioning for a Ravens team that has historically talked a big game about prioritizing high-character prospects (like Malaki Starks). I’m sure the Ravens did their homework, and Steve Bisciotti likely had to sign off on this pick, but I’m very curious what made the team’s leadership comfortable with this pick.

That will be the biggest question about Green in Baltimore, because there’s no question about his talent. He is a clear first-rounder with the athleticism and pass-rush repertoire to get after the quarterback right away and develop into a consistent double-digit sack-getter in Baltimore. That’s amazing value at 59, but the Ravens only got it because there are major question marks about Green as a person. The team tried to skirt questions about Tucker whenever they came up this offseason, but they will have to address this topic – tolerance for violence against women – head-on after drafting Green.

Grade: A(?) – instead of a plus for the value, Green gets a question mark for the significant off-field concerns. I need to know more before I’m truly excited about getting this talented of a player in the second round.

Chris Schisler

The Ravens just took the best player available. It’s a gamble as we’ve all frankly stated because of the off-field allegations tied to Green. This is the Ravens’ most legitimate shot at getting a dominant pass rusher in some time. There’s no doubt about the talent or his college production. The Ravens just got a second first round pick essentially. You have to hope they did their due diligence. You have to hope the know the risk is merited and weighed according to their vetting of the situation and Green’s character as they know it. If the Ravens see this work out, Joe Burrow and whomever the Steelers quarterback ends up being are in trouble. The Ravens are a top notch organization and that means I’m giving them some benefit of the doubt.
