OTL: NFL Ready for Saquon vs. King Henry Clash
As Ravens Flock gets ready to feast on Thanksgiving turkey and sides for tomorrow’s holiday, HC John Harbaugh’s team prepares for a showdown with the red-hot Philadelphia Eagles off the back of an impressive 30-23 Monday Night Football Baltimore win over the Chargers. It wasn’t a perfect game, but it was good enough to return some confidence.
And Sunday’s matchup should be a doozy:

Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley are challenging the theory that NFL Running Backs are not worth pursuing in free agency, as both have contributed tremendously to their respective sides. Against the Chargers, Henry went for 140 yards on 24 carries. According to PFF, he was the highest graded player on Baltimore’s offense:
Ravens’ top @PFF grades vs. Chargers:
Offense:
Derrick Henry (90.1)
Mark Andrews (85.9)
Justice Hill (77.2)
Lamar Jackson (74.8)
Roger Rosengarten (72.1)Defense:
Malik Harrison (81.6)
Kyle Van Noy (76.5)
Brandon Stephens (72.1)
Marlon Humphrey (68.9)
Jalyn Armour-Davis (66.0)— Ryan Mink (@ryanmink) November 26, 2024
As for Barkley, well, he’s in the Philly record books with 255 yards of his own. Even with defenders stacking the box, both backs are seemingly unstoppable:

While the Eagles play a bit more of a slow-paced offense than Baltimore at times, both teams are also amongst the league’s best in terms of scoring. Coincidence? I think not.
For the Ravens to beat the Eagles, it’ll all have to start with DC Zach Orr’s defense stopping Barkley. To give credit where it’s due, Orr’s unit has performed noticeably better over the last two weeks, particularly against the pass.
Starting with the run, though, Travis Jones continues to shine, and he’ll be integral to the team’s success Sunday:

Behind the line, I wouldn’t mind seeing Malik Harrison a bit more in run situations (which are common against Philly). As noted in the tweets below, Harrison was an unexpected standout against the Chargers, always seeming to be around the ball:
Credit to John Harbaugh for 3 massive 4th down conversions and good clock management.
Credit to Malik Harrison for stepping up for an injured Roquan Smith.
Credit to Todd Monken for dialing up the run in the 2nd half.

On the back end, things have looked better with Kyle Hamilton dropping deeper and Ar’Darius Washington stepping in for Marcus Williams and Eddie Jackson. The chart below allows us to compare the new duo’s performance to that of the former pairing:

It’s promising and Orr deserves his due for getting things back on track. Let’s hope for more celebrations like this moving forward:

And, before I forget, all hail Kyle Hamilton:

Kyle Hamilton going from the box to deep safety and still being one of the best in the world can’t go unnoticed. Starting to take for granted how good of a player he is

Of course, with all this talk about the defense, the Ravens can only pull out a win if their offense performs well. Luckily, they have a QB that continues to improve, impress, and make Colin Cowherd swoon:

Colin Cowherd on Lamar Jackson:
“Hey, Lamar Jackson’s pretty good at quarterback. He can beat you over the top. He can beat you with his legs. He can beat you underneath. Everyone wants to make definitive statements about Lamar Jackson at 27. MJ didn’t win a title until he was… pic.twitter.com/bfEKffAIkA

In nearly all metrics, which I’ll just dump below, Jackson is outshining the majority of the league on his way to a 3rd MVP award. He’s undoubtedly the reason Baltimore was able to withstand 9+ weeks of awful defensive play:

Your LEAGUES LEADER in Passing Yards.. Passing TDs…Passer Rating… QBR… Rushing Yards amongst QBs… with only 3 interceptions… Lamar Jackson
This isn’t a real person I’m convinced.

It’s honestly hard to believe these stats are real at times. But one big difference in Jackson’s year-over-year improvements could be the play of WRs Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. We know they’ve been productive and get open, but did you know they were doing so at this rate? They’re two of the league’s best in terms of separation.

Against a tough and twitchy Eagles secondary, their play this week will be paramount.
So, with a tough game and upcoming schedule ahead, what should Ravens fans ask for this holiday season? It seems like an 80% winning percentage from here on out is the answer:
If the #Ravens can finish with 4 wins in their last 5 games, the #steelers
1. Would win AFCN with 5 wins in 6 games
2. Would lose AFCN with 3 wins
3. Would win AFCN by tiebreaker with 4 wins unless 1 L to Bal, 1 L to Cin/Cle, Bal beats Cle#RavensFlock
