Magical Craft: A Wheel of the Year Vision Board
I made a vision board based on the Wheel of the Year and the seasons. The picture shows an empty template, which you could copy, and the version I filled in myself.
A vision board contains images or words that represent our goals, often used for help in manifesting the things we wish for. According to Psychology Today, they can be effective: “This may be due to how vision boards help us gain self-awareness and self-reflect on what is important to us.” Personally I think there can also be a bit of magic involved too.
What you need:
- Paper
- Pens or pencils
- Something to draw a circle with, such as the lid of a jar or a mug
On a blank sheet of paper, draw a circle. It doesn’t have to be an exact circle, but you can draw around a mug or small plate or jar lid.
Visualise the circle and the wheel a bit like a round clock, so 12 midnight equates to Winter Solstice in the Wheel of the Year. At the top write Winter Solstice. At the bottom write Summer Solstice, to the right put Spring Equinox, at the left put Autumn Equinox. Imbolc goes between Winter Solstice and Imbolc; Beltane or May Day goes between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice, Lammas after Summer Solstice, and finally Samhain after Autumn Equinox. In the middle write the year – 2025. You can put a circle around the year if you want, but you don’t have to. You can also indicate the spokes of the wheel with dashes.
Once you have the basic outline, you can start to write words or draw pictures inside it. I use more words because I’m a writer rather than an artist, but you could use more drawings if you prefer. Start in the space just to the right of “Winter Solstice” inside the circle, going from the centre of the circle out to the edge. Write words and phrases, or draw symbols, that are inspiring and feel in tune with the energy of January. As examples, I have things like “slumber, rest, dream, hope,” because they are things I like to do at the start of the year. You might have different words – this should be personal to you.
Move around the vision board, writing words or drawing pictures that fit in with your feelings and hopes about the time of year. For example at Imbolc I have “poetry” because one of my resolutions is to write a poem for each wheel of the year festival, Imbolc is the start and also is a time to honour Brigid, a goddess associated with poetry. Carry on round until your Wheel of the Year vision board is full of things that will inspire you to achieve all you desire.
There are more ideas for seasonal crafts and magic in my book Rounding the Wheel of the Year.
