New Year Resolutions: Looking Back at my 2024 Plans

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

This is the time of year I think about resolutions I made 12 months ago. I enjoy looking back at my blog and remembering things I’ve done as well as considering whether I’ve achieved what I intended. Instead of making just one resolution each year, I list of at least 10 things I want to do. The idea is that with a lot of goals there’s a good chance of getting at least some of them done. Here’s what I hoped to do in 2024 and how well I succeeded:

1: My Magical Novels and Events

The big thing for me in 2024 was the publication of my first novel, Erosion, a Gothic tale of friendship, dreams and the edge of a cliff. It officially came out in April, published by Moon Books. My goal was to launch the book with at least 6 events. The first was a signing at Treadwell’s on April 6th. You can see a picture of it here. I also did an online launch talk and was interviewed on podcasts including one with the Wordy Witch. The year has also been my busiest year so far in terms of giving talks and workshops. I taught classes on:

  • Candle magic,
  • Poppets and magical dolls,
  • Scrying and divination,
  • The Wheel of the Year,
  • Cleansing and purification,
  • Amulets and charms,
  • Witchcraft in general.

However, if I’m being really strict in my definition of my resolution, only 4 or 5 of my events were specifically to launch Erosion. It shows that plans can change, and I’ll call it half a point scored in terms of my initial resoluttions. My biggest unexpected achievement was that I wrote a second novel in 2024: a sequel to Erosion. It’s called Christmas Ghosts and the Holly Queen and I published it in instalments over the festive season. You can now read the entire story for free online at Lucya’s Substack.

If you want to buy Erosion, Rounding the Wheel of the Year, or any of my other titles published by Moon Books, the image at the top shows the details of a current e-book sale which ends tomorrow, December 31st. You can still order them after that, but at full price. You can also find my books at Treadwell’s Bookshop at 33 Store Street, London, WC1E 7BS.

2: Crafting

I planned to do seasonal or witchy crafting every month. It was the second year I’d had this goal, and succeeded. You can look at various makes I’ve done here.

3: Green London

London has oodles of spaces with grass, trees, plants and wildlife. I aimed to visit and blog about at least six more of them. I achieved this, and focussed especially on parks and gardens near where I live in south London. One of my favourites is South Norwood Country Park. You can see a photo here.

4: Esoteric London

I also intended to visit other places in London that are blog-worthy, especially those with an esoteric connections. This goal prompted me to see some exhibitions I might otherwise have missed. However, my favourite location that I blogged about can still be viewed. It’s the historic Reading Room in the British Museum

5: Ley Lines

Something I’ve failed to do several years running is walk a ley line. The reason this year is that I sprained my ankle badly then my husband suffered two prolapsed discs in his spine. Doing long walks has been out of the question.

6: Sacred Sites

I also failed to visit a historic or sacred or witchcraft-related site outside London I’d not been to before. The reasons for that are pretty much the same as why I didn’t walk a ley line.

7: In-person esoteric events.

In 2024 I planned to get to at least 12 in-person esoteric events and blog about them. This I achieved. One of my favourites was the Weekend of Divination and the Esoteric at the College of Psychic Studies, where I spoke about scrying and enjoyed many other wonderful talks and demonstrations.

8: Interviewing Pagan authors

I continued my interviews with Pagan authors and succeeded in my aim to do at least another dozen. Here’s a link to just one of them, Erin Aurelia on her book about Brighid.

9: Divination

I continued to do some form of divination for the world at least once a month and post about it. Here’s the link to what I posted on December, Friday 13.

10: Reading

Reading is probably my favourite pastime, and as expected, readers of A Bad Witch’s Blog saw at least 12 posts from me on magical books. Here’s a link to one of my reviews: Pagan Portals – A Guide to Pilgrimage

That’s seven-and-a-half  of my 10 goals achieved, which is pretty good. Next week I’ll post my resolutions for 2025.

Magical Ways to Guide Your Life in the Coming Year

On Wednesday 15 and 22 January I’m running a two-part online evening class, Magical Ways to Guide Your Life in the Coming Year. It is about releasing things that are unwanted and setting intentions for the year ahead, and is being run online via the College of Psychic Studies. Each class starts at 7pm. Tickets are £85/£65 for the entire course.
