Updated origin of pangolins: from Leptictis
Housekeeping continues
in the mammal subset of the large reptile tree (day 315). This time late Eocene Leptictis was recovered as the ancestor of pangolins (Pholidota), starting with late Eocene Patriomanis (Fig 1).

While seeking earlier pubs on this hypothesis
I came across Gaudin et al 2009. Leptictis was not mentioned in the text nor listed in their cladogram. Instead they cherry-pickekd unrelated Nandinia and Erinaceous.
Cherry-picking unrelated outgroup taxa = bad policy.
