When deputies initially arrived at the house and informed the lawmaker they were investigating such a complaint, he asked them: “Are you kidding me?” And can you believe that this ass McLeod is running unopposed for reelection this year. A state lawmaker is facing a criminal charge after he allegedly punched his wife in the face for failing to take off her clothes quickly enough when he wanted to have sex.
Mississippi Rep. Douglas McLeod, R-Lucedale, was drunk and holding a glass of alcohol in his hands when deputies with the George County Sheriff’s Department responded to a complaint of domestic violence at his residence Saturday night, reported the Sun-Herald.
When deputies initially arrived at the house and informed the lawmaker they were investigating such a complaint, he asked them: “Are you kidding me?”
As he returned inside his home, he was heard yelling, “The cops are here!”
Police wrote in their report that McLeod’s punch bloodied his wife’s nose, and they found blood on the couple’s bed and on the floor in the same room.
According to the Sun-Herald, McLeod “stumbled back to the front door and walked outside.”
“Mr. McLeod had slurred speech and walked slow in a zigzag pattern,” the deputies said, noting he was so intoxicated he had to grab a hand rail to keep his balance.
Police saw two women inside the home at the top of a staircase, both appearing to be frightened.
McLeod’s wife said her husband was inebriated and “just snapped,” following a pattern of his when he drinks alcohol.
The other woman explained to police McLeod’s wife came running up to her room with a bloody face, and they both locked themselves inside.
She said the 58-year-old lawmaker who has three children began pounding on the door, telling the other woman if she didn’t open it, he would “kill her [expletive] dog.”
McLeod was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor domestic violence and booked in the George County Jail. He is now free after posting a $1,000 signature bond.
The incident is already having repercussions, with Democrat state Sen. David Blount calling on McLeod to resign.
Republican House Speaker Philip Gunn joined the chorus, saying: “I have attempted to contact Rep. McLeod to request his resignation, if in fact, these allegations are true. These actions are unacceptable for anyone.”
McLeod is running unopposed for reelection this year.
