Should there be a greater priority or emphasis of teaching the 10 Commandments or having prayer in public schools?
I prefer teaching the 10 Commandments (“Not the 10 suggestions”) over school prayer !!!
“Pray in your closet” at home and in a private setting. In schools, are you going to have a Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim prayer time, etc., and alternate every day with a different religious prayer?
It will be read or memorized to express an individual theology not believed by everyone in the group.
TEACHING THE 10 COMMANDMENTS should have the effect of motivating students of faith (there are very few atheists) NOT to STEAL, KILL, OR LIE.
There is no need to teach legalism or bully others in the school assembly; listen to others speaking doctrines others disagree with.
Prayer is communicating with Emmanuel (meaning God with us). Prayer is not PERCEIVED as WITNESSING (unless you are a spiritual Pharisee (baptized in legalism. LOL
Praying in a group setting, in a particular denomination of “like-minded” believers, is encouraged because the prayers expressed are from believers “in one accord” (pretty much).
In multi-religious schools and other social settings, it is better to invite others to your religious group. Public prayers are sometimes used to produce guilt by shooting spiritual arrows into the other person’s spirit to shame others in their actions or beliefs or to refute the religious dogma that another person who hates your prayers has. This is UNNECESSARY.
