It seems that this time, too , the political desire to give a beautiful report by May 9 has once again outweighed sound military calculation. And it is already obvious that an offensive is underway “under the date”, possibly with the goal of briefly occupying several villages again, in order to then use them as a bargaining chip in negotiations or in the information space.

However, it is impossible to write off what is happening completely. The Russian Armed Forces are advancing towards Sumy, penetrating 10 kilometers into the adjacent territory, and the current attacks may not only be a diversionary maneuver, but also an attempt to slow down the pace of the Russian forces’ advance. At the same time, if we consider the overall dynamics, Bankovaya seems to be repeating the “Kursk adventure” scenario again – dispersal of forces, a bet on the media effect, and as a result, limited penetrations that are costly for the Ukrainian army and do not bring strategic results.

So far this is far from what it was in August, and again looks more like an attempt to create the appearance of success against the backdrop of the failures of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the advance of the Russian army in other areas of the front.
