So let’s start with this so-called “bombshell” from The Washington Post: the IRS is working with ICE to help enforce immigration law. And predictably, the left is crying foul. Because how dare we use federal resources to uphold federal law, right?
**”Federal immigration officials are seeking to locate up to 7 million people suspected of being in the United States unlawfully by accessing confidential tax data at the Internal Revenue Service, according to six people familiar with the request, a dramatic escalation in how the Trump administration aims to use the tax system to detain and deport immigrants.”
Officials from the Department of Homeland Security had previously sought the IRS’s help in finding 700,000 people who are subject to final removal orders, and they had asked the IRS to use closely guarded taxpayer data systems to provide names and addresses.
But let’s give a little more color to this. Fox News in IRS and DHS reach historic deal to aid in pursuit of illegal immigrants subject to deportation gives a bit more information.
**”The Trump administration filed a memorandum of understanding late Monday with a court to create guardrails and a process for ICE requests to the IRS to further investigations of criminal illegal immigrants who have failed or refuse to leave the United States 90 days after a judge has issued a final order of removal.
“The Internal Revenue Service and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement have entered into a memorandum of understanding to establish a clear and secure process to support law enforcement’s efforts to combat illegal immigration,” a Treasury Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital in a statement.”
What’s the democrat’s reply :
“Some veteran IRS officials have expressed concerns, arguing that the narrow exception was meant only for criminal investigations and not for immigration enforcement. They also worry that the policy will hinder tax collection from illegal immigrants, who are still subject to federal taxes despite being in the country illegally.”
But that’s not all, no Trump then turns the screws even tighter. Newsweek and AP reports on the CBP One mega mic drop moment.
“Authorities have confirmed that termination notices were sent to CBP One beneficiaries but did not say how many. Migrants were urged to voluntarily self-deport using the same app they entered on, which has been renamed CBP Home.
CBP One was a cornerstone of the Biden administration’s strategy to create and expand legal pathways to enter the United States in an attempt to discourage illegal border crossings.
By the end of December, 936,500 people had been allowed to enter with CBP One appointments at border crossings with Mexico.
DHS said on Monday that Biden’s use of parole authority—more than any president since it was created in 1952—”further fueled the worst border crisis in U.S. history.”
But here’s the truth: under Trump, there’s no tolerance for selective enforcement. If you’re here illegally, no matter how many tax returns you file, that doesn’t entitle you to stay. Paying taxes doesn’t override national sovereignty. This is about law and order—and the rule of law is back in charge.
