Free Iran Rally Outlines Course for International Community to Support Regime Change in Iran
The Iranian Resistance held its annual “Free Iran” gathering in Paris on July 1. During the course of the event, speakers from the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Europe, and the Middle East all spoke out against the actions of the regime and offered support for regime change.
“The people of Iran demand and deserve better than the religious fascism ruling Iran,” said John Baird, the former Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs. “The policies of appeasement let the people of Iran down.”
Another speaker, Ed Rendell former Chairman of the Democratic National Committee
from the United States noted, “A free Iran ruled by Rajavi will mean peace and security to the Middle East. It will mean women will be treated as equals.”
The Albania delegation expressed their welcome to the MEK members who had been moved from Iraq’s Camp Liberty and welcomed to Albania. “The 2,700 Iranians in our country are part of the Albanian family,” said Pandeli Meiko former Prime Minister of Albania.
According to Ingrid Betancourt, “This movement is a movement of resistance by Muslims, for Muslims. They have rejected the mullahs’ version of Islam.”
The overall theme was a peaceful regime change. While the speakers dwelt on the impact of the current regime in the region, Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), spoke out to give the international community a course of action to support the Resistance.
“We have welcomed the statements made at the Arab, Islamic, American Summit in Riyadh against the Iranian regime’s terrorist and destabilizing activities. Nevertheless, we emphasize that the ultimate solution to the crisis in the region and confronting groups like ISIS, is the overthrow of the Iranian regime by the Iranian people and Resistance,” said Rajavi in her keynote address.
As part of her address, she outlined areas where the international community could play a part in bring the regime change about.
“Accordingly, to the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and countries in the region, we say:
- Recognize the resistance of the Iranian people to overthrow the mullahs’ religious dictatorship. Expel the regime from the UN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and hand over Iran’s seat to the Iranian people’s Resistance.
- Designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization and evict it from the entire region.
- Khamenei and other leaders of the regime must face justice for flagrant violations of human rights and their crimes against humanity, particularly the 1988 massacre of political prisoners in Iran and for their war crimes in the region,” said Rajavi.
She noted that the time has come to go on the offensive and march forward. Rajavi ended her remarks by encouraging members of the Resistance to keep going and keep fighting for freedom and democracy in Iran.
The Palestine delegation also noted, “The path to democracy requires time and effort and sacrifice. But we will have victory.”
For Rajavi and those attending the gathering, it was clear that they saw victory as close by and the regime is truly on its last legs.
