I first heard of Loretto Chapel from my uncle George Roberts who was a farmer and carpenter. George made the trip to New Mexico to see what he considered the Eighth Wonder of the World. The Loretto Chapel’s Miraculous Stair. I can say George was obsessed with how the staircase was constructed. George had to go see the staircase for himself. George said that when he saw the staircase, he felt an inner peace. George believed that the staircase was truly divine. The story of the Miraculous Staircase at Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe is a story based on faith, mystery, and a divine intervention. The chapel was completed in 1878, but the choir loft was 20 feet high and remained inaccessible without a staircase. The nuns of the chapel prayed to Saint Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters for nine straight days. The nuns conducted a novena, which is a series of prayers repeated for nine consecutive days. On the tenth day, a mysterious carpenter appeared and told the nuns that he will build the staircase. Legend has it that the staircase was built overnight, while others say it took several days. It depends on who you want to believe. This mysterious carpenter after building the staircase just disappeared. The nuns searched for the carpenter everywhere and they could not locate him. They wanted to pay the carpenter and thank him personally. Since the nuns were praying to Saint Joseph, they believed it was Saint Joseph that answered their prayers and built the staircase.
I recently talked with some ghosthunters in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Talked with Markee Z – lead investigator and Lara Twilight – Psychic Medium. They belong to the ghost hunting group called G.O.A.T. IT (Ghosts, Occult, Aerial Phenomena, Tulpas & Cryptids) Investigation Team. Markee Z says that the Loretto Chapel is now a museum and wedding chapel. The chapel was completed in 1878. Markee Z tells me that the chapel is haunted. Out of curiosity, I asked: “What, by angels?”
Markee Z laughs and says…”well maybe, but it does have a prominent ghost”. Lara Twilight says that the legendary ghost, is a ghost known as “Sister George”. Reports of paranormal activity include sightings of her, as well as instances of her allegedly slipping extra money into the gift shop register. Lara as a psychic medium felt her presence and captured an EVP of a woman saying…”love people, never judge”. Lara did some research on Sister George, and it is rumored that she died from a fall in the building. Sister George is also known as the Smoking Nun because when she was alive, she smoked cigars. Before she makes her appearance, the soon-to-be witness will smell cigar smoke. There are anecdotes of Sister George allegedly slipping extra money into the gift shop register, a gesture that is interpreted as her lingering presence. Some stories mention Sister George interacting with children, perhaps reflecting her former role as a teacher at the school connected to the chapel. Some children have reported being hugged by an unseen entity. Beyond Sister George, there have been various reports of other unexplained phenomena within the Loretto Chapel, including unexplained noises and disturbances.
Markee Z says that the mysterious carpenter is something right out of the Bible, because when he met with the nuns he had with him a donkey and toolbox. When he was done with the staircase, he just vanished, took no pay or even received a “thank you” from the nuns. The staircase is considered a miracle because it has two 360-degree turns and no visible support, with some believing it was built without nails, only wooden pegs. The carpenter’s identity remains a mystery, with some believing he was St. Joseph himself. I explain to Markee Z that my theory is that the nuns were visited by an angel, that used advanced technology to build that staircase. The technology would be extraterrestrial technology. If you believe angels are from heaven, that would mean that they were not born on Earth, that they are not terrestrial, they are indeed extraterrestrial. With advanced extraterrestrial technology, the staircase would be easy to build. The nuns with their nine days of prayer may have connected with angels. Prayer is often seen as a way to communicate with a higher power, whether it be God, a deity like an angel, or a universal consciousness. This connection can bring a sense of spiritual alignment and a feeling of being heard and understood. If angels are aliens, it would make sense that you would be able to contact them through prayer. A UFO witness once said that he saw a UFO in the sky. He received a telepathic message that said…”would you like to come with us?” The UFO witness said a flat “no”. It would appear that angels and aliens communicate the same way, with telepathy. When the nuns prayed for nine days, their prayers were heard by an angel.
