I have a big connection to Jamestown, CA. My wife Deanna Jaxine Stinson aka Wish Fire used to live in Jamestown. Wish Fire’s parents still live in Jamestown. Our group HPI (Halo Paranormal Investigations) conducted a very large scouting mission to Jamestown. I brought over 30 scouts. Scouts are “paranormal investigators in training”. You are probably wondering exactly where Jamestown is. Jamestown is located just inside the Tuolumne County Line. Jamestown is still revered as the “Gateway to the Mother Lode.” Jamestown is the place where gold was first discovered in the county. Today, Jamestown remains a charming, historic and very well-preserved town. Jamestown has a lot of history, some of that history is very dark. Joaquin Murrieta and the Murrieta Marauders killed many miners in the Jamestown / Sonora area. Ghostly miners have been seen walking along trails. Some of my scouts claim they encountered some of those ghosts. Locals tell us that Jamestown was first founded in 1848, following the discovery of a 75-pound nugget of gold by Benjamin Wood in a creek south of town. The creek is named after Benjamin Wood, and his discovery was considered part of the historic California Gold Rush that began at John Sutter’s Mill near Sacramento. A ghost that has hidden his gold when he was alive, now haunts the trails near Rail Town 1897 State Historic Park. The ghost is known as Snake McGavin. Loren M, a psychic medium says that as he was walking along a trail, in front of him was a snake. Loren stepped back and a cowboy looking guy with a grin on his face was holding the snake that was in front of him. The ghost known as Snake McGavin grinned and vanished with the snake. Loren immediately did an EVP session and a Ouija Board session on the trail and asked for the name of the ghost. He received a voice recording on his recorder that said “Snake McGavin” and another recording that said: “watch your step”.
During our scouting mission, we learn that many mining camps were comprised of both Anglo and Mexican miners, Jamestown was predominantly an Anglo community, while miners from Mexico moved up Woods Creek a few miles and established their own city, Sonora. Sonora was a hangout of the outlaw that inspired Zorro. That outlaw is no other than Joaquin Murrieta. Joaquin was not the only outlaw in this area. You also had Colonel James, and a thief named Corrigan, that were law breakers in Jamestown. Jamestown was named after Colonel James. With all of the wicked deeds that were happening because of greed, you had killings such as where two men were found naked, with their throats cut, near what was called the “Chinese diggings.” Two Mexican men were shot in the middle of downtown Jamestown. Three others were attacked and fatally injured on the road to Sonora as two others were found dead with their pockets rifled. A man who lived alone in a tent near town was found bludgeoned with a hatchet. Murder was happening everywhere in Jamestown, Sonora, the area that is now Rail Town and Woods Creek. I might want to mention there were some more murders and crimes committed. You had three Mexican bandits stabbed and killed for robbing two traders at their tent. A witness named McMennis shot one of the robbers through the head as the other two made off with $300. Several robberies took place at Jamestown within just a few days. And when a white man grabbed the wife of a local Native American leader, he and two of his friends were shot to death.
Present Day: You have hauntings at the Historic National Hotel that was founded in 1859. A ghost named Flo haunts the upstairs and in the rooms that face the outdoors. She is seen floating from room-to-room. She is known to turn the lights on and off. She will at times slam doors and if she is frustrated, she will take your luggage, open it and dump your clothes on the floor. Outside of this hotel, my scouts took pictures of 3 blue orbs that were floating around. Lou Statler, a scout with Halo Paranormal Investigations says that he saw a light far down the railroad tracks that was flickering and moving sideways back and forth. When Lou approached the light, the light flickered off. When Lou came back to the train station, he saw the light again. Wish Fire saw a ghostly woman at the 1897 State Historic Park that was wearing a yellow bonnet. A scout named Brian Lisbon says he also saw the ghostly woman wearing a yellow bonnet. Brian conducted an EVP session in which he says: “Yellow Bonnet, if you are listening, give me a sign that you are here.” Yellow Bonnet made good, by placing her ghostly fingers in his hair and stroking his long hair. Two of the scouts saw Brian’s hair move by itself.
