Easy Money Fails to Civilize

The Welfare State is based on the premise that easy money can transform people who have gravitated to the bottom into productive citizens. This is certainly true in the realm of bleeding heart liberal ideology. However, outside that bubble:

Just days after claiming a $167.3 million Powerball jackpot, a lottery winner was arrested alongside his girlfriend at a Florida resort bar…

The girlfriend’s name is Jacqueline Ann Fightmaster.

Farthing and Fightmaster were arrested by officers at the TradeWinds Resort in St. Pete Beach…

According to an arrest affidavit filed in Pinellas County, Farthing punched another customer named Kevin Rushing in the face during an argument. When police arrived and intervened to break up the fight, Farthing kicked an officer in the face.

Antisocial behavior is not out of character for the lucky winner.

Farthing has a colorful criminal history, having been incarcerated three times and having committed several felonies throughout the past 25 years. His crimes include theft, receiving stolen property, drug trafficking, escape from a detention facility, engaging in an organized crime syndicate, promoting contraband, drug possession, and tampering with physical evidence.

He remains in prison despite having plenty of bail money because he was in violation of parole.

Maybe while he cools off behind bars, his girlfriend will use the money to do something constructive, like start a business. Then again, probably not:

Fightmaster was observed actively engaging in the argument involving her boyfriend and was attempting to “fight the other patrons at the bar,” her own corresponding arrest affidavit reads. She “appeared very intoxicated and was yelling, screaming, and making incoherent statements.”

What do you expect of a woman named Fightmaster?

At least Farthing split the jackpot with his mom, Linda Grizzle. Considering her name, care to guess the color of her hair?
