AARP FOUNDATION TAX AIDE

Get Your Taxes Done for Free at the Macon County Public Library

(Macon County, NC) — Volunteers will be assisting taxpayers with their federal and state income tax preparation and filing at the Macon County Public Library on Mondays and Tuesdays from February 3 rd through April 15 th . There is no charge for this service. Taxpayers do not need to be a member of AARP, a retiree, or senior citizen.

This service will be provided from 9:30AM – 3:00PM by appointment only. Appointments can be made on-line at wnctaxaide.as.me, by calling the Library’s Reference Desk at (828) 524-3600, or by visiting the library located at 149 Siler Farm Road, Franklin, NC.

After making an appointment, taxpayers need to stop by the library to pick up a packet of material to be completed prior to their appointment. The packet also contains a list of items the taxpayer must bring with them to the appointment. These items include but are not limited to:

 For a married couple filing jointly, both spouses must be present

 Photo ID for you and your spouse (if married filing jointly)

 Social Security Cards or ITIN documents for you, your spouse and/or dependents

 Birth dates for you, your spouse and/or dependents

 Tax Forms for 2024 (W-2, 1099, 1098, 1095 & Social Security Statement, etc.)

 Copy of 2023 Tax Returns

 1095 forms if you purchased insurance through the Marketplace Exchange

 Information for other income

 Information for all deductions/credits

 Proof of savings or checking account and routing numbers (for direct deposit of refund)

AARP Tax-Aide volunteers make it easy for you. In most cases, all necessary tax forms are submitted directly to the IRS and state tax authorities during or immediately following the session.

The program is sponsored by the Macon County Public Library, the AARP Foundation, and the Internal Revenue Service. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest volunteer-based free tax preparation service. Volunteers are trained and IRS-certified every year to ensure they understand the latest changes to the U.S. Tax Code.
