Private operators defy fare regulations
Vijayawada – Andhra Pradesh (Before It’s News – IC): Despite transport department regulations mandating fixed fares during the Sankranti holidays, private travel companies have blatantly ignored these rules. Tickets are being sold at rates two to five times higher than the prescribed limits, burdening passengers financially.
Ganesh Babu criticized the unchecked practices, stating, “Private operators are exploiting the festive demand and charging exorbitant rates, causing immense hardship to travelers.”

Exorbitant fares persist for weeks
The issue of inflated fares has persisted since the Sankranti holiday season began on January 10. Reports indicate that private operators have been arbitrarily hiking ticket prices for nearly 15 days, leaving passengers with limited affordable options.

Demands for immediate action
The UYFI state committee has outlined the following demands to address the crisis:
- Strict action against private operators: Authorities must enforce regulations and penalize private operators overcharging passengers.
- Special festival buses: The government should arrange additional buses to accommodate the festive rush and ensure affordable travel options for those visiting their hometowns.
Ganesh Babu emphasized the need for urgent intervention, warning that the current situation undermines public trust in the transport system.

Call for passenger protection
The UYFI has urged the transport department to prioritize passenger welfare and prevent further exploitation during the festival season. “Affordable travel is a basic right, and the authorities must step in to protect passengers from these exploitative practices,” said Ganesh Babu.
