…. a small band of intrepid men decided they’d had enough.

The Intolerable Acts, a set of four laws imposed by the British in 1774, were part of it — but not all of it.

Rather than isolate Massachusetts as intended it did the opposite, resulting in the convening of the First Continental Congress.

And then 250 years ago, after much more, British troops marched on Lexington intending to confiscate the ball and powder (ammunition, for muskets) from the colonists and arrest both Samuel Adams and John Hancock, who the British knew were there.  They were met by Minutemen — ordinary men who had decided that the line was to be drawn here, and not one step further, and told the British to go home or else.

Contrary to popular myth nobody is really sure who fired first; that first shot, according to some accounts, didn’t even come from the two…….
